April 30 marked the end of another 60-day legislative session in Florida. We’re not sugarcoating the results: The 2021 session of the Florida Legislature eroded environmental protections and failed to address the core of our state’s water-quality crisis: lack of enforceable pollution limits.
During this Clean Water Conversation, we're breaking down the good, the bad, and the ugly with state Rep. Anna Eskamani, Executive Director of Florida Conservation Voters Aliki Moncrief, and our own Policy Director, Gil Smart. The conversation will be moderated by our Executive Director Eve Samples.
Aliki Moncrief is Executive Director of Florida Conservation Voters — an organization dedicated to engaging people in democracy and electing lawmakers to protect our environment and healthy communities for everyone.
Anna Eskamani is a member of the Florida House of Representatives from the 47th District in Orange County who flipped her legislative seat in 2018 and won her re-election by an overwhelming majority in 2020. She is a known champion of critical issues like environmental protection.
Gil Smart was a high-profile newspaper columnist and investigative reporter, often covering Florida’s many environmental follies, for more than three decades before joining Friends of the Everglades as Policy Director.
